Roll the model forward

After a month closes, use Roll last actual date to save the old forecast, refresh the sources, and move the Last actual date.

When a month closes, its actual data replaces the forecast for that month. To roll the model forward, you load the new actuals and move the Last actual date one period later. Formulas that read the period before then start from the real value, not from the old forecast.

Roll last actual date… does the whole close in one step: it saves the old forecast, refreshes the sources, rolls the linked models, and moves the date. Apply changes only moves the date.

1. Open the roll

  1. Go to Scenario planning → open the model.
  2. Select Model settings.
  3. Under Last actual date, select Roll last actual date….

The button shows only when the model has a Last actual date. To set the first one, see Last actual date.

2. Choose what the roll does

  1. In New last actual date, select the closed month, such as Sep '26. The window opens on the next period.
  2. Under Refresh sources, keep each source that must supply the closed month. All sources are selected at first.
  3. Under Roll linked models, keep each linked model that must roll too. All linked models are selected at first.
  4. Keep Save a version first selected. The Version name starts as "Latest" and the closing period, followed by "forecast". You can change it.
  5. Read the summary. For a forward roll, it says how many periods change from forecast to actual.
  6. Select Roll forward.

If you select an earlier date, the button says Roll back. A roll back cuts off actual data after that date and returns those periods to forecast.

3. Or move the date by hand

To move only the date, without the refresh and the version:

  1. Save a version in Versions, and select Refresh actuals above the grid.
  2. In Model settings → Last actual date, select the closed month.
  3. Select Apply changes.

The panel shows "Time settings saved." If the model has invoice actuals, the message also says that Eigenn re-applied the imported actuals.

4. Check the result

  • The closed month now shows source values in data-linked variables. These cells are read-only.
  • The orange boundary line and the diagonal hatch start one period later.
  • In the first forecast month, a formula that reads [previous] of a data-linked variable gets the actual value of the closed month.
  • Scenario changes in the closed month no longer apply. Eigenn keeps them.

Compare the new forecast with the version from step 1. Look for large changes in the first forecast months. See Compare scenarios and versions.

Linked models

Each model has its own Last actual date. Roll linked models rolls the selected linked models with this model. If you move the date by hand, roll the source model first.
