Model limits and performance
The fixed limits of planning models, how Eigenn calculates a model, and how to keep a large model fast.
This page lists the fixed limits that Eigenn applies to planning models. It also explains how calculation works, so you can keep a large model fast.
Eigenn does not set a fixed maximum for variables, dimensions, or scenarios. A larger model takes more time to calculate and to export.
Model limits
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| Periods in the model date range | 1,200 |
| Model name | 200 characters |
| Folder name | 120 characters |
| Charts in one model | 100 |
| Named versions in one model | 200 |
| Version name | 160 characters |
If a date range is too long, Eigenn shows "The selected model range exceeds 1200 periods." At 200 named versions, Eigenn shows "Version limit reached for this model. Delete old versions first."
View limits
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| Rules of one kind in one saved view (variables, dimensions, scenarios, or charts) | 100 |
| Items in one filter rule | 500 |
| Saved view name | 120 characters |
Export limits
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| Size estimate that starts a background export | More than 8 MB |
| Runs in the export history | The last 10 |
| Life of a stored file's download link | 10 minutes |
How calculation works
Each model has a calculation mode.
- Automatic is the default. Eigenn calculates the model again after each change.
- Manual keeps the stored values until you click Run calculation. Eigenn does not calculate a manual model when you open it. Manual mode is available only when it is turned on for your workspace.
The calculation bar shows the state of the model:
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Up to date | The last calculation completed. |
| Calculating | A calculation is in progress. |
| Stale | The values are from the last successful calculation. |
| Failed | The last calculation failed. The last successful values stay visible. |
The bar shows above the grid when the model is not Up to date or uses manual mode. It also shows when manual mode is turned on for your workspace. Check the state before you use the values.
The uncertainty panel in the model settings uses 200 simulation runs. It shows the P10, P50, and P90 values.
Keep a large model fast
- Keep the model date range only as long as the plan needs. Each period adds work to every variable.
- For a large set of edits, use manual mode if it is available. Click Run calculation after the last edit.
- Make large exports smaller. Turn off the Scenario column, or export through a saved view.
