Compare versions

Preview a saved version, check if it is comparable with the live model, and compare it with actuals in a table.

You can read a saved version beside the live model in two ways. Preview the version to see its saved values. Or add the version to a comparison table in Charts to see the variance against actuals.

Neither action changes the live model.

1. Preview a version

  1. Go to Scenario planning → open a model → select Versions.
  2. Select Preview on the version row.

A dialog named "Preview of" and the version name opens. It is marked Read-only.

  • The variables are in rows, and the periods are in columns.
  • The values use the formats that the model had when you saved the version. A later format change does not change the preview.
  • A period that the version does not have shows a dash.
  • Sections and groups do not show, because they hold no values.

Push Escape or select the close button to close the preview.

If Eigenn cannot read the version, the dialog shows "This version is no longer available." For other errors, the dialog shows a message. Refresh the page and try again.

A teammate in a shared view can preview named versions. The preview shows only the rows that the view allows.

2. Check that the version is comparable

A version shows the Not comparable badge when its settings differ from the live model. Hold the pointer on the badge to see the reason.

MessageCause
"Not comparable — granularity changed"The version uses a different time granularity.
"Not comparable — currency changed"The version uses a different display currency.

On a comparison card, a version that Eigenn cannot read shows "Version unavailable — it may have been deleted".

In a comparison, a version that is not comparable shows dashes, not numbers. Eigenn does not convert the saved values to the new granularity or currency. You can still preview and restore the version.

3. Compare a version with actuals in a table

  1. In the grid, select the variable rows to compare.
  2. On one of the selected rows, select the options button (⋮).
  3. Select Create budget vs. actuals table.
  4. Select Charts to see the new Budget vs. actuals card.

The table uses the newest named version as the base. If the model has no named version, the base is the live model, named "Current". The comparison series is Actuals. The table shows the variance as an amount and as a percent.

Variance columns compare only the periods that both series have. Hold the pointer on a variance column header to see "Compares overlapping periods only" and the period range.

To compare a different budget, save it as a new named version. Then create the table.

Rename a series on a card

  1. On the card, select the more actions button (⋮).
  2. Select Rename series.
  3. In Series labels, type a new label for the version. A label can have up to 60 characters.
  4. Select Done.

The new label applies to that card only. The version keeps its name. Clear the field to show the version name again. Actuals has a fixed name.
