Time aggregation in charts
Show a chart or table card by month, quarter, or year, limit the date range of the Charts page, and read single values and totals.
A chart or table card groups the periods of the model into columns. You choose the size of the columns for each card: Monthly, Quarterly, or Yearly. The date range in the page header limits the periods of some cards.
1. Choose the granularity of a card
- Go to Scenario planning → open a model → select Charts.
- On the card, select the granularity button. It shows Quarterly by default.
- Select Monthly, Quarterly, or Yearly.
The change applies to that card only. It lasts while you stay on the page.
| Granularity | One column for | Example label |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | Each period of the model | Sep ‘26 |
| Quarterly | Each calendar quarter | Q3 ‘26 |
| Yearly | Each calendar year | 2026 |
Quarters and years follow the calendar. They do not follow the fiscal year setting of the model.
Chart cards, Table, Listogram, and the P&L tables have this button. The other cards, such as KPI, Editable table, and Budget vs. actuals, do not.
2. How a column adds up values
| Time aggregation of the variable | Value in a quarter or year column |
|---|---|
| Final | The last value in the column |
| Any other setting | The sum of the values in the column |
Charts and the Table card do not use Average, Initial, or Formula for these columns. A quarterly column for a monthly rate shows the sum of three rates. For a rate, a price, or a ratio, use Monthly.
The Listogram card is different. It follows Average, Initial, and Final for the last column.
A column at the edge of the range can hold fewer periods. For example, a model that starts in September has only one month in its first quarter.
3. Limit the date range
- In the page header, select the date range button. It shows the first and last period, such as Sep ‘26 – Aug ‘27.
- Select Full model range or Last 12 periods.
Last 12 periods keeps the last 12 periods of the model.
The range applies to these cards: Summary, Runway & Cash KPIs, Cash, Revenues, and Expenses. The date range that you set above the grid limits the same cards. The P&L tables and the cards that you add from New chart always show the full model range.
4. Read actuals and forecast
A line is solid up to the Last actual date and dashed after it. A column counts as forecast only when all of its periods are after the Last actual date. When the model has no Last actual date, all lines are solid.
5. Show one value or a total
Charts have no total column. To show one number, use one of these cards:
- KPI shows one variable at one period. Choose Last actual, Today, or Final. Final is the last period of the model.
- Budget vs. actuals shows one value for the full model range. Each value follows the Time aggregation of its variable. A Final variable shows the ending balance.
