Restore a version
Replace the live model with a saved version, see what a restore changes and keeps, and undo a restore.
A restore replaces the live model with a saved version. Use it to undo a change that went wrong, or to return to an approved plan. Eigenn saves the current state first, so you can undo the restore.
A preview reads a version. A restore changes the model for all users.
Before you start
- You must be a workspace Owner. A teammate in a shared view can preview versions but cannot restore them.
- Preview the version first. See Compare versions.
- Tell the teammates who work in the model now.
1. Restore the version
- Go to Scenario planning → open a model → select Versions.
- Find the version. Use Search versions or Named only when the list is long.
- Select Restore on the version row. The button changes to Confirm restore.
- Select Confirm restore.
Hold the pointer on Confirm restore to see the hint "The current state is snapshotted first, so this can be undone." If you select a different item first, the button returns to Restore.
You can restore every kind of version: named, auto saved, and before restore.
What a restore changes
- The model gets the variables, formulas, inputs, scenarios, and settings of the version.
- The restored version stays in the list. Eigenn adds a "before restore" copy above it.
- When the version includes linked models, Eigenn restores them together. If one linked model cannot be restored, Eigenn applies no changes.
- After the restore, Eigenn gets the current actuals and the linked source values again. The live numbers can differ from the numbers in the preview.
What a restore keeps
- The comments on the model.
- The saved views of the model and their share grants.
- The full version history.
A restore does not give back share access that you removed before.
Undo a restore
Before each restore, Eigenn saves the current state as a "before restore" copy. Its name is Before restoring "<version name>". Eigenn keeps this copy for 90 days.
To undo the restore:
- Select Versions.
- Find the
Before restoringcopy. - Select Restore, then Confirm restore.
If the restore fails
| Message or state | What to do |
|---|---|
| The model does not change after Confirm restore | Another user changed the model at the same time. Reload the model, then try again. |
| "The version operation could not be completed. Refresh and try again." | The restore did not complete. Refresh the page, then try again. |
| "A linked model in this version is no longer available." | Eigenn cannot find a linked model of the version. The model did not change. |
| No Restore button | You do not have full access to the model. Ask a workspace Owner. |
