Bank transactions

Use the team's bank transactions and transaction categories as monthly actuals in a planning model.

The Bank transactions connector rolls up the team's transactions into one net amount for each transaction category and each month. A model variable can read one category as its actual.

Use it when your bank feed is the best record of cash in and cash out. You can also use it when you do not use an accounting app.

1. Get transactions into Eigenn

The source reads the transactions that Eigenn already holds. It needs no provider connection. To add transactions:

  • Connect a bank: go to Transactions → More transaction actions → Add transactions → Connect account.
  • Import a file: see CSV import.

Categorize the transactions on the Transactions page. The rollup uses the category of each transaction.

2. Create the source

  1. Go to Scenario planning → Data → click New.
  2. Click the Other tab, then select the Bank transactions card.
  3. Under Select a dataset, the dataset is Transaction categories. The source includes all categories.
  4. Under Advanced configuration, set the fields in the table below.
  5. Click Create data source.
FieldDefaultAllowed values
Source labelTransaction categories1 to 80 characters
Months of history241 to 60
Include the current periodClearedSelected or cleared

Keep Include the current period cleared for most models. A month in progress can look like a sudden drop.

Another way: click Import actuals above the grid of a model. If the team has no category source, Eigenn creates one named "Bank category actuals" with the default values. Eigenn then adds one row for each category that is not excluded.

3. What counts in the rollup

RuleResult
StatusOnly posted and completed transactions count.
Internal transfersA transaction with Exclude from analytics turned on does not count.
Excluded categoriesA category with Exclude from Reports turned on does not count.
SignIncome is positive. Spend is negative.
CurrencyAmounts use the team's base currency.
Other currenciesA transaction with no converted amount in the base currency does not count.
No categoryThe transaction counts under Uncategorized.

4. Link a category to a variable

  1. Open the model and click Model settings → Data sources.
  2. Under Transaction categories, select the source, a category, and a variable.
  3. Click Attach category actuals.

The source must be Active. An excluded category shows "(excluded from analytics)", and you cannot select it.

5. Refresh the source

  • Eigenn refreshes each Active source one time each day, at 03:30 UTC.
  • On the Data page, click the refresh icon on the source card.
  • In a model, click Refresh source under Transaction categories, or click Refresh actuals above the grid.

A refresh calculates the rollup again from the current transactions. It does not change any transaction. If you change a category, the amount moves at the next refresh.

6. Limits

  • The rollup is monthly.
  • The longest history is 60 months.
  • The Data page groups category sources under Bank transactions. This includes sources that you create from the CSV import card.

Apply a dimension
