Team roles and planning access
Learn which plans include scenario planning, what an Owner, a Member, and a Viewer can do, and how a saved-view grant adds to a role.
Three things decide what a person can do in Scenario planning:
- The plan of the team.
- The team role of the person.
- The saved-view grants that the person holds.
Use this page to find out why a teammate cannot open or change a model.
Plan requirement
| Feature | What it controls | Plans that include it |
|---|---|---|
| Stress Tests | All planning models: open, create, and edit | Scale, Enterprise |
| Planning View Sharing | A new or changed saved-view grant | Scale, Enterprise |
Starter and Growth do not include these features. No add-on gives them. To change the plan, refer to Billing and usage.
What each role can do
| Action | Owner | Member | Viewer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Create, rename, duplicate, or delete a model | Yes | No | No |
| Open the full model grid | Yes | No | No |
| Edit variables, scenarios, plans, and versions in the full model | Yes | No | No |
| Add, reply to, and resolve comments | Yes | No | No |
| Share saved views and remove grants | Yes | No | No |
| Open a saved view | Any view | With a grant | With a grant |
| Hold Can edit within view | Not needed | Yes | No |
An Owner opens any saved view of a model without a grant. A Member or a Viewer opens a model only through a view that an Owner shares.
How a grant and a role work together
The team role is the upper limit. A grant cannot raise it.
- A Member with Can view reads the view.
- A Member with Can edit within view changes inputs and formulas inside the view.
- A Viewer always gets read access. The sharing panel does not offer edit access to a Viewer.
For each grant, refer to Share a model and set access.
When a person has no grant, the link shows "This shared view is unavailable." Eigenn shows the same message for a view that does not exist.
Change a team role
- Go to Settings → Members.
- Find the teammate in the member list.
- Select the new role. The role list shows Owner and Member.
Only an Owner can change a role. Give the Owner role only to people who must own the full model. An Owner can also change team settings outside planning. For the full role rules, refer to Teams and organizations.
