Format a variable
Set the value type, currency, decimals, scale, and the display of zeros and negative values for a variable.
The format of a variable controls how its values show. A format change does not change the stored values or the formulas. The value type also controls how Eigenn reads a value that you type.
1. Choose the value type
- Go to Scenario planning → open a model.
- Put the pointer on the variable row and select ⋮ (Options for variable name).
- In the top row of the menu, select a type.
| Button | Type | Example |
|---|---|---|
| # | Number | 1,250 |
| $ | Currency | $1,250.00 |
| % | Percent | 5% |
| Calendar | Date | Sep 2026 |
| Check box | Boolean | Yes or No |
For a Boolean variable, type yes, true, or 1 to store Yes. Any other entry stores No.
2. Set the currency
A currency variable shows two more rows in the menu:
- Local currency: Type a three-letter currency code, such as
USDorEUR. - FX rate type: Select Default, Average, or Closing. Eigenn uses this exchange rate when it shows the variable in a different display currency. Default uses the rate type of the model.
To show the whole model in one currency, select More → Display currency. See Currency and multi-entity formulas.
3. Set the number format
Open Format in the options menu. It has these settings:
| Setting | Options | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Prefix, Suffix | Up to 16 characters | Text before or after each value, such as ~ or users |
| Human readable | On or off | Short values, such as 1.3M for 1,250,000 |
| Comma separators | On or off | 1,250 or 1250 |
| Zero as | Zero (0), Dash (—), Blank | How a zero shows |
| Negatives | -, ( ) | -500 or (500) |
| Red negatives | On or off | Negative values in red |
| Precision | Auto, 0, 1, 2 | The number of decimals or figures |
| Precision type | Decimal places, Significant figures | How Eigenn counts the precision |
| Magnitude | Auto, Ones, Thousands, Lakhs, Millions, Crores, Billions, Trillions | A fixed scale with a suffix, such as 1,250K |
| Relative time | On or off, for Date variables only | A date as a distance, such as "in 3 months" |
| Lower is better | On or off | A decrease shows as an improvement in comparisons |
A fixed Magnitude overrides Human readable.
Tips
- With Precision set to Auto, a percent shows whole numbers. 5.5% shows as 6%. Set Precision to 1 to show 5.5%.
- With a fixed Magnitude, a plain number that you type uses that scale. In a Thousands variable, type
250to store 250,000. - Blanks in data in the options menu changes more than the display. It also changes how formulas and totals use empty cells. See Time totals.
