Change an input over time

Type a value in each period, paste a series, set one value for all forecast periods, or use a formula for growth.

An input holds one value for each period. Use this page when an assumption changes during the model, such as a price rise in July or a hiring plan by month. For a steady pattern, such as 3% growth each month, a formula is shorter and easier to change.

1. Type a value in one period

  1. Go to Scenario planning → open a model.
  2. Double-click the cell of the period. You can also select the cell and press Enter.
  3. Type the value and press Enter. To cancel, press Escape.

Use the arrow keys to move to the next or previous period. These entries are accepted:

(500) or -500−500

5 in a percent variable5, shown as 500%

To undo a change, press Cmd+Z (Ctrl+Z on Windows). To redo it, press Cmd+Shift+Z or Cmd+Y.

2. Paste a series of values

  1. Copy a row of values from a spreadsheet.
  2. In Eigenn, select the cell of the first period.
  3. Press Cmd+V (Ctrl+V on Windows).

Eigenn puts one value in each period to the right. Each copied row goes to the next row down. Eigenn skips cells that you cannot type in, such as actual cells and formula cells.

3. Set one value for all forecast periods

  1. Open a model and select Charts.
  2. Select the Inputs toggle to open the inputs panel. It shows one tab for each group that holds input variables.
  3. Type the value in the field of the variable and press Enter.

Eigenn puts the value in every forecast period of the variable. Only input variables inside a group show in this panel. When a scenario other than Base is active, the value is a scenario change.

4. Use a formula for growth or a step change

Make the variable a formula when the values follow a rule. Select ƒ (Add formula) in the Formula column of the row.

Growth from a start value:

if Revenue[previous] = blank then Starting revenue else Revenue[previous] * (1 + Monthly growth rate)

This test for blank needs Blanks in data set to Treat as blank on the variable.

A price that changes in July 2027:

if timeStep >= date(2027, 7) then 60 else 50

timeStep is the position of the current period. date(2027, 7) is the position of July 2027.

5. Give one period its own formula

  1. On a formula variable, select the cell of the period.
  2. Press F2.
  3. Type the formula for that period and press Enter.

The cell shows a small ƒ mark. To remove the period formula, select the cell, press F2, and select Use all-period formula. Actual cells cannot take a period formula.
