Save a version

Create a named version of a model, learn when Eigenn saves versions for you, and rename or delete a version.

Save a named version before a large change or at a decision point. For example, save one before you restructure formulas, roll actuals forward, or present a plan to the board. A named version stays until you delete it.

You must be a workspace Owner to save a version.

1. Create a named version

  1. Go to Scenario planning → open a model → select Versions.
  2. Type a name in the Enter version name to create a new version field.
  3. Select Create, or push Enter.

The version shows at the top of Version history as a "named version", with the date and time.

Name rules

  • The name is necessary. Create stays unavailable while the field is blank.
  • A name can have up to 160 characters.
  • Tell the decision point in the name, such as "FY27 plan before board review". Do not use only "Final", because the model continues to change.
  • Eigenn adds " (manual)" when the model uses manual calculation. Eigenn adds " (unevaluated)" when it cannot calculate the model before the save. In both cases, the version holds the stored values.

A model can have 200 named versions. At the limit, Eigenn shows "Version limit reached for this model. Delete old versions first."

If the model changes during the save, Eigenn shows "The model changed before the version could be saved. Refresh and try again."

When Eigenn saves versions for you

EventVersion
Every hour, and after model editsAn "auto saved" copy. Eigenn skips a copy when nothing changed, and keeps 10 minutes or more between copies.
A roll forward of the last actual dateA named version. Save a version first is on by default. You can change the name in the Version name field.
A scenario merge or promotionA named version of the model before the change. Its name starts with "Before merging into" or "Before promoting".
A restoreA "before restore" copy named Before restoring "<version name>".

An auto saved copy stays for 48 hours. It stays longer while a chart or an export uses it.

Find a version

  • Type in the Search versions field to filter the list by name.
  • Select Named only to hide auto saved and before restore copies.

Rename or delete a named version

To rename:

  1. Select the pencil on the version row.
  2. Type the new name.
  3. Select Save, or push Enter. Push Escape to cancel.

To delete:

  1. Select the trash icon on the version row.
  2. Select Delete? to confirm. You cannot undo a delete.

Eigenn does not delete a version that a dashboard card or a saved export uses. It shows one of these messages:

  • "This version is used by dashboard cards: …. Edit those cards first."
  • "This version is pinned by saved exports: …. Edit or delete those exports first."

Change or remove the cards or the exports, then try again.

You cannot rename or delete auto saved and before restore copies.

Roll the model forward

After a month closes, use Roll last actual date to save the old forecast, refresh the sources, and move the Last actual date.

Scenarios

A scenario changes selected inputs of a model without rewriting the base case, so you can compare and stress alternatives in one grid.
