Create a dimension
Create a dimension from the Dimensions page or from inside a model, and add the items that it holds.
A dimension starts empty. You give it a name and an owning model, and then you add its items. A dimension needs at least one item before you can apply it to a variable.
To create and edit dimensions, you must be a workspace owner.
1. Create the dimension from the Dimensions page
- Go to Scenario planning ā Dimensions.
- Select New.
- Under Icon & name, enter an icon in the small field. The default icon is š§. You can use up to 4 characters.
- In the name field, enter the name, such as
Region. - Under Model, select the model that owns the dimension.
- Check the type. The type is always Dimension. The Hierarchy card shows "Nested levels ā coming soon."
- Select Create.
Create stays unavailable until you enter a name and select a model. Dimension names must be unique in a model. The new dimension shows in the list with the label ā Unused.
2. Or create it inside a model
- Go to Scenario planning ā open a model.
- Select More ā Dimensions.
- Select New dimension.
- In the panel, under New dimension, enter the name, such as
Department. - Select the create button (+). Its label is Create dimension.
The model owns the new dimension. Eigenn opens it in the panel.
3. Add the items
- Open the dimension. On the Dimensions page, select its row. In a model, select More ā Dimensions ā the dimension.
- Under Items, enter a name in Add an item.
- Press Enter, or select the add button (+). Its label is Add dimension item.
- Do this for each item.
Each item name must be unique in the dimension. The Identifier column shows the fixed ID of each item. The ID does not change when you rename the item.
To change the order, set the item order list to Saved order. Then use the move up and move down buttons on the item rows. AāZ and ZāA sort the list on the screen only. The saved order applies to every variable that uses the dimension.
Until the dimension has items, Eigenn shows "Add items to make this dimension available for variable breakdowns."
Add all items before you type values in item rows. A change to the items rebuilds the item rows of each variable that uses the dimension. For the effect on typed values, see Apply a dimension.
Next step
Break a variable down by the new dimension. See Apply a dimension.
