The Dimensions page
Find the dimensions of all planning models, open one to edit its items, link it to another dimension, and delete dimensions that no model uses.
The Dimensions page lists the dimensions of all planning models of the team. Use it to find a dimension without opening each model, and to clean up dimensions that no model uses.
The page is for workspace owners. Only owners can see the list and change a dimension. Each dimension still belongs to one model. A change on this page changes that model.
1. Find a dimension
Go to Scenario planning → Dimensions. Use the tabs and the search to narrow the list:
| Control | Shows |
|---|---|
| All | Every dimension |
| Yours | The dimensions of models that you created |
| Shared | The dimensions of models that other teammates created |
| Unused | The dimensions that nothing in the model uses. The tab shows their count. |
| Search dimensions… | The dimensions whose name or model name contains the text |
Each row shows the icon, the name, and up to eight items. A row in use shows the name of its model. A row not in use shows ⚠ Unused.
2. Open and edit a dimension
- Select the row, or select Actions for and the name → Open.
- To rename the dimension, change the name at the top. Press Enter to save.
- Under Items, add, rename, reorder, or delete items.
- To rename an item, type the new name in its row. Then select its save button (pencil).
The Models card at the right names the owning model. Select it to open the model. Dimension names must be unique in a model. Item names must be unique in a dimension.
A change to the items rebuilds the item rows of each variable that uses the dimension. Typed item values are not kept. See Apply a dimension.
3. Link the items to another dimension
A link maps each item to an item of a second dimension in the same model. For example, map each Employee to a Department.
- Under Link items, select a dimension in Linked dimension.
- Next to each item, select the item that it maps to, or Not mapped.
- Select Save mappings.
To delete the link, select No link. A saved view uses the link. A Dimension filter on Department then also narrows the rows of mapped employees.
4. Apply the dimension to a variable
Under Apply to variable, select the variable and select Add and the dimension name. For the details, see Apply a dimension.
5. Delete a dimension
- Open the dimension and select Delete. Or select Actions for and the name → Delete.
- If the model still uses the dimension, Eigenn shows "Remove this dimension from variables and links before deleting it."
A dimension is in use when a variable uses it, a link names it, a scenario override is on one of its items, or a saved view filters it. Remove each use first. Then delete the dimension.
The same tools inside a model
In a model, select More → Dimensions → a dimension. A panel opens with the same items, links, and Apply to variable controls. Select Manage to open the full workspace of the model. Select Back to spreadsheet to return to the grid.
